DEFRA Servicing

DEFRA-compliant servicing & inspection support

AIS service engineers prepare your incinerator for DEFRA, APHA and Trading Standards inspections — with documentation, cycle logs and refractory reports.

Inspections happen — and a missing service log or a drifted thermocouple is the difference between a clean visit and a stop notice. Our DEFRA-aligned service plan keeps the documentation, the controls and the refractory in the state inspectors expect.

What's included

  • Annual DEFRA-aligned full service
  • Cycle log export for inspectors
  • Refractory and chamber report
  • Thermocouple calibration & replacement
  • Burner combustion analysis
  • Inspector-ready service certificate

Prepare the documents as well as the machine

For a UK animal by-product installation, keep the approval details, operating instructions, service history and relevant cycle records together. Check that staff know where they are stored and who is responsible for updating them. The precise requirements depend on the unit, material and approval conditions, so confirm them with the responsible authority.

Before a visit, tell AIS about any inspection findings, operating alarms or missing records. Available temperature logs can help explain how the unit has been used, but they do not replace a physical inspection. A service report records engineering work; it is not an independent grant of regulatory approval.

Understand the limits of inspection support

AIS can inspect and maintain the components involved in controlled combustion and help you prepare the supporting information. DEFRA and APHA responsibilities are specific to the UK framework, including animal by-product controls under the applicable legislation. Formal approval and enforcement decisions remain with the relevant authority, not the service engineer.

Keep track of remedial actions after a service or inspection. Record what was repaired, whether any further work is outstanding and when the next review is due. Operators should follow the approved procedure and escalate a temperature or safety fault rather than continuing to load a machine that is not operating correctly.
